Introducing our guest experts:
Professor Catherine Ross
Ulster University Distinguished Graduate winner 2023, Catherine is currently the Chief Scientific Officer in Scottish Government, providing professional advice to ministers and government on all aspects of healthcare science. She is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction for the scientific services in Scotland and leads on international health issues from a scientific professions perspective. Catherine led the development of a Women in Science and Engineering Fellowship in NHS England supporting the growth of female leaders in the health sector. In recognition of her work supporting women leaders, she was named as an inspirational female on International Women’s Day 2023 by the Science Council.
Greg McCann
Greg is an Executive Director of FinTrU and the site head for FinTrU Derry. FinTrU is a multi award winning Regtech company who specialise in working with global investment banks in the areas of Compliance, KYC, Legal, Risk and Controls and Operations. He has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, with a background in business banking, retail banking and global investment banking. He has worked across a number of functions including compliance, financial crime risk, regulatory control and regulatory change management. Greg is a member of FinTrU’s senior leadership team and is head of FinTrU’s Derry / Londonderry office. Previously, Greg was head of Ulster Bank’s Financial Crime Risk team, heading up the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Bribery and Corruption functions. He holds a BSc and MBA from Ulster University and an International Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering. He is also a qualified Prince 2 project management practitioner.
Dr Shirley Barrett
Shirley is the (Interim) Head of Department of the Ulster Business School on the Derry~Londonderry campus. She has been a member of academic life for over 26 years with subject expertise in leadership and people management. Shirley is also an external examiner in several UK and Irish universities which provides exposure to the wider HEI environment. Leading a team of colleagues, as well as being a mother to four children, she is familiar with the challenges of managing talent and supporting colleagues in their roles as well as trying to find solutions to complex problems that accompany people management.
