This April, the North West will come alive with vibrant events that showcase the spirit, creativity, and resilience of our local community. Derry Chamber is proud to celebrate and support two standout initiatives – The Triumph of Music and Making Hope Happen, which will bring messages of joy, connection, and optimism to the North West.

On Saturday 19th April, Guildhall Square will become a spectacular hub of music, theatre, and public celebration with The Triumph of Music, a major free event created by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller. From 12 noon to 6pm, audiences will be treated to a mix of live performances, folklore, dramatic visuals, and artistic collaboration as the city launches The Triumph of Art, a five-city UK celebration marking the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery.

Among the highlights are performances from the renowned Armagh Rhymers, masked in traditional costumes by craftsman Bob Johnson of the Ulster Folk Museum, and a family-friendly dance party led by DJ Tom Middleton inside the Guildhall.

Kevin Murphy, CEO of The Playhouse, said:

“If you venture into Guildhall Square on Easter Saturday, you will become part of Jeremy Deller’s latest unpredictable and inspirational public art imagining. We invite people to come and have spirits lifted, hearts lightened and passions raised in a celebration of the Triumph of Music.”

Later that week, on Friday 25th April, the community will gather once again for the Walk of Hope, a symbolic and inclusive event organised by RESILIO and North West Community Network and endorsed by the Mayor. The walk begins at 10:45am from Ebrington Square to the Guildhall, led by young people carrying a specially designed HOPE flag created by local P7 pupils.

The walk marks Derry and Strabane District Council’s journey toward becoming the First District of Hope, and a full day of activities will feature, including a HOPE Human Library, HOPE Workshops, and music performances.

“We would encourage everyone to support the HOPE event on Friday 25th April. This dynamic initiative is a testament to our commitment to fostering a culture of optimism, resilience, and progress within our communities and beyond.”

Derry Chamber welcome such powerful initiatives taking place in our region, and we are proud to stand behind efforts that strengthen our community bonds, showcase local talent, and bring hope and celebration to the heart of the North West.
