The Irish Government has announced Intelligence, a programme to support the adoption of artificial intelligence across businesses, public services and wider society.
Announced in October alongside Ireland’s International AI Summit, the programme sets out 35 initiatives to be delivered by 2030. It builds on the Government’s Digital Ireland strategy, with measures covering workforce skills, business support, research and the responsible use of AI.
A central commitment is a €150 million AI Future Skills programme, intended to support lifelong learning and help workers adapt to technological change. Other measures include sector-specific support for businesses, a €21 million AI Startup Accelerator and a National AI Literacy Taskforce to help build understanding across society.
For anyone looking to develop a basic understanding of AI, an existing resource offers a practical starting point.
AIReady.ie, developed by SOLAS in partnership with the National Skills Council, provides free online learning for people with no previous AI experience or technical background. Launched in April, the platform will enter a further phase under the new programme, focusing on helping employees use AI effectively in their roles.
Its current beginner courses cover getting started with AI, everyday uses, workplace tasks and career development. Courses take around 20–30 minutes, with topics ranging from improving correspondence and business administration to recognising scams and preparing for interviews.
For business owners, employees or anyone simply curious about the technology, these short courses offer an accessible way to build foundational knowledge and confidence.
