Belfast-based Public Affairs, Stakeholder Engagement and PR firm Belmont Strategy has appointed Robin McCormick as a Strategic Advisor.

A highly-respected senior executive, McCormick was previously General Manager and Chairman of SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland) – the organisation responsible for operating and developing Northern Ireland’s high voltage electricity transmission network – playing a key role in facilitating renewable energy generation across the region. In the EirGrid Group he was Director, Operations, Planning & Innovation responsible for the DS3 programme enabling the all-island power system to meet the challenges of decarbonisation.

In the new part-time role, Robin will use his expertise and experience in the energy sector and delivery of complex infrastructure projects to advise Belmont Strategy on renewable energy developments, grid solutions and market operations. He will also provide support on business strategy, planning and decision-making.

Having retired from the EirGrid Group in 2020, Robin is currently a Senior Advisor to PwC Middle East and Chairperson of leading energy consultancy TNEI Ireland.

Daniel McLaughlin, Belmont Strategy founder and Director said:

“Robin’s expertise and insights will be of huge benefit to Belmont Strategy and our partners.

“Having held senior roles in both SONI and EirGrid Group he is perfectly placed to advise on renewable energy and infrastructure development across the island of Ireland as our clients work to deliver the projects needed to help achieve ambitious 2030 decarbonisation targets.

“Robin will also provide strategic advice to our non-energy clients and his appointment further strengthens Belmont Strategy’s unique offering in the planning, energy and infrastructure sectors.”

Robin McCormick added:

“Over the last 18 months Belmont Strategy has quickly established itself as one of the leading advisory firms supporting the delivery of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

“I am excited to join the business and I look forward to helping our clients navigate the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition and the delivery of new projects, particularly those required to meet our renewable electricity targets.”
