Derry has been chosen as one of the first cities in the UK and Ireland to operate a fully zero-emission urban bus service! Translink will be unveiling its new zero-emission Foyle Metro bus fleet at the Guildhall next week and members of the public are invited along to see the new buses first-hand.

The first 2 buses in the new zero emission Foyle Metro fleet including a state-of-the-art single decker and double decker electric vehicle will be on site with the public having the opportunity to step on board and find out more from members of the Translink team. A total of 38 buses will make up the battery electric fleet and are a key part in decarbonising public transport in Northern Ireland.

From this summer, the entire fleet in Derry will be going fully electric, a fantastic step forward in the journey to net zero and a real boost for our city. It’s brilliant that our city has been chosen as one of the first in the UK and Ireland to have a fully zero-emission bus service, something which will go a long way to securing the future sustainability of our public transport network in Derry. It also represents a £32 million investment in the city.

As drivers and passengers look for more and more sustainable and eco-friendly ways to travel, and electric vehicles of all kinds become much more popular, an all-electric fleet in our city is something to value and be very proud of! A strong and sustainable public transport network is an enabler of economic growth and success and we can’t wait to see the all-new net zero buses roll out on the roads in the famous Foyle Metro red this summer.

Translink will hosting a special preview event for the new fleet in Guildhall Square on Thursday 25th May from 11am – 3pm.  Make sure to check it out!
