The Millennium Forum’s hugely popular Energy of Light Disco was in full flight over the weekend with approx. 100 participants enjoying this worthwhile Access project.  Such was the incredibly fun and relaxed atmosphere, that even the project sponsors, Apex Housing, took part in the dancing, with some staff members also choosing to hit the DJ decks.

Energy of Light discos are a monthly disco for adults who are experiencing limited physical, sensory and/or learning disability.  Hosted in the Millennium Forum by DJ Oliver Brown (a young person himself living with disability), the Energy of Light discos have been running for a number of years and have helped many young people to interact socially in a safe and accessible environment.

Warren Kerr, Good Relations Officer with Apex Housing Association said,

“The Energy of Light Disco embodies the spirit of the Housing for All Shared Housing Programme by bringing people together in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Apex is proud to support the Millennium Forum in delivering this initiative, and it was wonderful to see young people from our youth diversity programme building friendships and sharing the dance floor with participants with additional needs.”

Lisa Heaney, Access Manager at the Millennium Forum also commented:

“We continue to work incredibly hard to ensure that our venue is fully accessible to all our patrons and we fully recognise the importance of removing barriers for people living with disabilities. Our monthly Energy of Light discos are extremely popular and we just love seeing the joy on everyone’s faces as they hit the dancefloor! We couldn’t achieve this without the help of all our Access sponsors whose support is truly invaluable to us and to the many lives it helps change.”
