Michael Barkley is a versatile trumpet and flugelhorn player who has made a name for himself in the jazz scene and beyond.

He recently composed and recorded the first album with The Michael Barkley Quartet, featuring the unique sound of a chordless quartet with exquisite alto saxophone/bass clarinet, drums, and double bass. The album has received acclaim for its blend of tightly arranged bebop and hard bop compositions with collective free improvisation, showcasing the quartet’s musical prowess.

Michael’s reputation as a sought-after collaborator has led him to work with a diverse range of artists across different genres, including Van Morrison, the Brian Irvine Ensemble, and some of the many great local musicians. He has also made notable contributions to the critically acclaimed television series Derry Girls and the recent film Belfast, demonstrating his versatility as a musician across different mediums.
