Time: 10 am to 12.30 pm

This 2.5-hour training session aims to give participants

  • An understanding of asylum and refugee issues in the UK and NI in particular
  • Up to date information on numbers, legal status and entitlements of both asylum seekers and refugees
  • Clarity on the difference between asylum seeking and refugee status.
  • An overview of the process of claiming asylum
  • An overview of the challenges involved in the transition process for those granted leave to remain/refugee status and a better understanding of how they might be supported.
  • An overview of the current Refugee Resettlement Schemes in NI
  • An insight into the vulnerability of those who come to seek asylum in NI and the barriers they encounter.
  • Greater understanding of how to support integration within local communities.
  • An opportunity for questions and answers.
