As the 2026 Foyle Cup draws to a close this weekend, Derry Chamber would like to praise organisers, volunteers, clubs and businesses for delivering what has been the largest tournament in the event’s 34-year history, providing a significant contribution to the regional economy.

With a record-breaking 1,013 teams, more than 11,500 young players and thousands of visitors across the week, the Foyle Cup has once again transformed the North West into an international sporting destination, bringing a welcome boost to local businesses.

Hotels, restaurants, cafés, retailers, transport providers and visitor attractions across the city and region have benefited from the influx of players, families and supporters travelling from across Ireland, Britain, Europe and North America.

The tournament’s reach continues to grow, with international participation reinforcing the North West’s reputation as a destination capable of hosting major events on a global scale.

Chief Executive of Derry Chamber, Anna Doherty, said:

As well as creating unforgettable sporting experiences for young people, the tournament provides an important platform to promote the region internationally. Teams from the United States, Canada, Spain, Great Britain and across the island of Ireland are able to experience the culture, heritage and hospitality that define the North West.

Derry Chamber believes the continued success of events such as the Foyle Cup underlines the importance of sustained investment in tourism, enabling our region to attract even more large-scale events that deliver lasting economic benefits.

As the final matches take place this weekend, the Chamber congratulates everyone involved in another outstanding Foyle Cup.
