Foyle Foodbank, part of the Foyle Network Foundation which also includes The Network, its affordable community shop, has launched its annual Christmas Appeal as rising costs continue to put pressure on families across the North West.
With Christmas approaching, the organisation reports a significant increase in local households struggling to afford everyday essentials. Last year, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and community partners, Foyle Foodbank supported nearly 1,000 households, as well as many more throughout the winter months.
One family supported by the charity shared their experience:
“Last Christmas, I didn’t know how we’d cope. Poor health meant no income, and with four kids, the pressure was overwhelming. But Foyle Network Foundation/Foyle Foodbank stepped in, with food, support, and Christmas gifts. They gave us hope when we needed it most.”
This year, Foyle Foodbank anticipates an even greater level of need and is calling on local businesses to join the Appeal to help ensure families across the region can experience a brighter, more hopeful Christmas.
How Local Businesses Can Support the Appeal
Businesses are invited to contribute in several ways:
-
Organise a staff food collection (a list of most-needed items is available)
-
Host staff fundraising activities
-
Make a financial donation
-
Provide vouchers for local butchers, supermarkets, restaurants, or takeaways
To make giving as easy as possible, Foyle Foodbank can invoice financial donations and provide photographs and social media content for corporate communication. As a Living Wage employer, the organisation can also support companies in meeting their ESG and CSR objectives.
“Together, we can make Christmas brighter for local children and families,” said Patricia from Foyle Foodbank. “Every contribution, large or small, helps us respond with compassion and care at a time when many need it most.”
