This week, the North West once again takes centre stage as the biggest ever O’Neill’s Foyle Cup kicks off, welcoming 950 teams and over 20,000 players to the region – an extraordinary showcase of sport, community, and economic impact.

Now in its 33rd year, the Foyle Cup has grown into one of the single most impactful youth football tournaments, with 3,664 games scheduled across six days, from Derry and Strabane to Donegal and the Causeway Coast. Teams from as far afield as Australia, South Africa, Canada, the USA, Spain, and Finland will join clubs from every corner of Ireland and the UK in a festival of football like no other.

With over 200,000 spectators expected throughout the week, the tournament is set to generate a remarkable £8 million for the local economy – a major boost for hospitality, tourism, and local business.

Derry Chamber Chief Executive Anna Doherty praised the tournament’s organisers, stating:

“The Foyle Cup continues to be one of the North West’s greatest success stories. It brings together our community, supports our amazing local businesses, and puts Derry and the wider region firmly on the international map.

“This is grassroots sport at its best, and a powerful reminder of the vibrancy and potential of our region.”

From the colourful opening parade in the City Centre, to packed stands across 57 playing venues throughout the week, the Foyle Cup offers unforgettable memories for players, coaches, families and supporters.

The Foyle Cup is about more than football – it’s a celebration of international friendship, local pride and shared ambition. It energises our towns and villages, fills our hotels and restaurants, and shows the world what our region has to offer.

As matches continue to get underway this week and the streets buzz with excitement, the Chamber extends its warmest welcome to all visiting teams, supporters and officials – and congratulates the Foyle Cup committee, volunteers and sponsors for continuing to deliver a tournament of truly world-class calibre.
