Derry Credit Union Youth Awards took place on Monday night, highlighting some local young people who go above and beyond for their schools and communities! The event took place at the City Hotel, with  250 guests in attendance to celebrate the fantastic achievements of young people across the community.

Brilliant entertainment provided by the St. Columb’s College Traditional Group along with performances including an electric opera piece, a humorous monologue and music from talented local singers and musicians.

Conán Doherty, Sports Journalist with the Irish Independent and host of the Villa Podcast, delivered the keynote speech, full of practical advice for success and punctuated with gags which had the whole audience in stitches.

Colm McCauley, President of Derry Credit Union, paid tribute to the next generation of leaders, artists, sports heroes, carers, and volunteers. He also took the opportunity to thank Derry Credit Union Youth Committee Chair, John Akhionbare, and the entire committee who put months of hard work into planning, delivering and hosting the glittering event. It is wonderful to see Derry Credit Union continue this tradition of recognising and fostering young talent in the North West and we hope to see it continue for many more years.

The Chamber wants to wish a special congratulations to students from our members, Foyle College and St. Mary’s College, who were finalists at the awards. Foyle College had two students recognised for their work in the Arts, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Volunteering categories. Students from St. Mary’s College were also recognised as finalists for their volunteering work in local hospices, excellence in journalism, outstanding leadership and caring responsibilities. St. Mary’s and Foyle College both play a vital role in creating the next generation of leaders in the North West.

Congratulations once again to everyone recognised at this year’s awards. The future of our young leaders in the North West is clearly very bright!
