It’s Good News Friday and we’re looking ahead to the GEMX Industry 4.0 Showcase event taking place next week at the NWRC Springtown Campus.

GEMX purpose is to help promote engineering and manufacturing excellence in the North West and it has organised a showcase of Industry 4.0 technologies to demonstrate how this technology can help transform businesses in the North West.

Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution as it is sometimes referred to, is the modernisation of manufacturing techniques. It uses computerisation and automation to streamline and improve production.

This showcase event will see industry leading speakers, including many from the North West, talk to attendees and help them understand how these new and emerging technologies on show may be able to improve their own businesses.

Speakers will include John McClune from Invest NI, Justin Quinn from the Smart Manufacturing Data Hub, Mark Higgins from FAST Technologies, Niall O Somachain from Intertrade Ireland and Fergal Tuffy from North West Regional College.

The event will also see in person showcases of these technologies which are at the forefront of manufacturing modernisation. Attendees will have the opportunity to see how other companies have adopted 4.0 technology, experience equipment first hand, ask questions and get advice on how to take it forward. InvestNI will also have a drop-in facility to offer advice and guidance and there will be a talk from Digital Catapult who will provide an overview of the Accelerator Programme.

Fergal Tuffy from North West Regional College and one the event speakers said: “I’d encourage anyone with an interest in engineering and manufacturing to come along to this event as we look to grow and support the local sector here. North West Regional College has made significant investments in our own campus and technology over the past number of years, including £7 million in our Springtown campus which houses the dedicated Industry 4.0 education suite. This investment underscores the importance of constantly updating technology and keep pace with new developments which are crucial to productivity and helping businesses grow.”

Events such as the GEMX Industry 4.0 Showcase are a driving factor behind ensuring industry in the North West is not only up to date with the latest trends, but ahead of the game and continuing to be an industry leader.

The North West is a vibrant hub for manufacturing with many of our own Chamber members leading advancements in manufacturing and engineering. This is a sector that is set to grow with no end of ambition among our local North West based businesses.

The Industry 4.0 Showcase will take place on Friday 1st September at NWRC Springtown Campus
