Now in its 33rd year, the O’Neill’s Foyle Cup welcomed a record-breaking 950 teams and over 20,000 young players to the North West, turning the region into a week-long epicentre of sport, camaraderie, and community. But beyond the roar of the crowds and the magic on the pitch, the tournament plays a powerful role in fuelling the local economy, bringing lasting value to businesses across Derry and beyond.

This year’s tournament brought an estimated 200,000 spectators to the region, delivering a projected £8 million boost to the local economy. Hospitality, retail, transport, and tourism all experienced a powerful uplift.

As Visit Derry CEO Odran Dunne highlighted, “It was a bumper week with hotel occupancy levels well above 90% and local tourism businesses, welcoming repeat and new visitors and laying the foundation for visitors to return again in the future.”

Everglades Hotel reported a 43% increase in revenue compared to the same period last year, describing the week as “phenomenal” for trade. Across the city, Ebrington Hotel spoke of private bookings by visiting parents, with accommodations booked out and hospitality venues thriving.

For many city-centre businesses, the Foyle Cup marks one of the most anticipated weeks of the year. Chamber members attest to the Cup bringing great life to the city, with significant uplifts in footfall.
