Londonderry Chamber is proud to shine a light on the power of innovation and creative thinking across the North West this week, with standout success stories emerging from both the housing and hospitality sectors.
We warmly congratulate Apex Housing Association on its recent success at the CIH All-Ireland Housing Awards, where it secured the Excellence in Housing Innovation award. This significant achievement recognises the organisation’s pioneering partnership with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, which has delivered a transformative supported living pathway for individuals across Derry.
The award-winning initiative demonstrates how collaboration between housing and health services can lead to genuinely life-changing outcomes. By focusing on tailored support and early intervention, the partnership has created a model that not only meets immediate needs but also enables individuals to live more independently and with greater dignity.
Speaking about the recognition, representatives from Apex highlighted the importance of partnership working and innovation in addressing complex housing challenges, noting that the programme has already had a profound impact on tenants’ lives. Crucially, this pathway has now been embedded across its supported living schemes in Derry, ensuring that its benefits are sustained and expanded over the long term.
At a time when the sector faces increasing financial pressures, including anticipated reductions linked to the Local Growth Fund, this achievement is particularly significant. It underlines the importance of thinking differently, embracing new approaches, and working collaboratively to continue delivering high-quality services despite a challenging funding landscape.
This success story is a powerful reminder that even in times of constraint, innovation can unlock new opportunities and drive meaningful change. The North West has long been recognised for its strong sense of partnership, and this latest accolade reinforces the region’s position as a leader in developing practical, people-focused solutions.
Alongside this, there is further positive news for our thriving tourism and hospitality sector. The recent announcement of finalists in the NIHF Receptionist of the Year Awards 2026 features a number of talented individuals from across the region. The inclusion of local hotels including Bishop’s Gate Hotel, Shipquay Boutique Hotel, Maldron Hotel Derry, Waterfoot Hotel, and the Ebrington Hotel highlights once again the exceptional standard of service delivered here.
As the North West prepares to welcome visitors for the busy tourist season, this recognition could not come at a better time. Receptionists are often the first point of contact for guests, playing a crucial role in shaping their overall experience. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail are key factors in ensuring visitors leave with a positive and lasting impression of the region.
The strong representation among this year’s finalists is a testament to the dedication and skill of our local workforce, and to the commitment of businesses to delivering excellence in customer service. It also reflects the continued growth and ambition of the tourism sector, which remains a vital contributor to the North West economy.
Together, these stories highlight the resilience, creativity, and talent that define our region. Whether through innovative approaches to housing and social care, or through the delivery of world-class hospitality experiences, organisations and individuals across the North West are continuing to rise to challenges and seize opportunities.
Derry Chamber celebrates these achievements and is happy to support our members as they continue to innovate, collaborate, and drive progress. By championing such success stories, we can help ensure the North West remains a dynamic, forward-looking region where people, communities, and businesses can thrive.
