The North West is continuing to demonstrate its strengths as a centre of innovation, skills development and cultural excellence, with a series of major announcements highlighting the region’s growing international profile.
This month saw the exciting launch of Allstate NI’s North West Digital Hub at the Everglades Hotel, marking another step forward in the company’s commitment to the region. The launch also introduced the Future Innovators competition, which will see 3,500 pupils across Derry and Strabane gain hands-on experience with digital creativity, while addressing important themes around road safety. Supported by The Allstate Foundation, the initiative will provide schools with new digital tools and resources, inspiring the innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow.
Stephen McKeown, Global Vice President and Managing Director of Allstate NI, said:
“The North West has always been a vital part of Allstate Northern Ireland’s story, and we remain deeply committed to its growth and success. We see talent in this region and the potential it holds to become a leading centre for digital innovation. The new hub strengthens our roots in the community and ensures that the North West continues to play a central role in Allstate’s future.”
This follows a landmark £16 million investment in digital skills training across its Belfast and Derry sites announced earlier this month. The initiative, part of Allstate’s global ‘Transformative Growth’ programme, will upskill and reskill the company’s 1,700-strong workforce, ensuring they remain at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies including software development, AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.
The momentum around skills and innovation will continue on 1st October, when Paul Cheek, an international leader in entrepreneurship and innovation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, arrives in Derry for two engagements. His AI in Action lecture at Ulster University will explore how artificial intelligence is opening new entrepreneurial pathways and enhancing business competitiveness, while highlighting the North West’s unique opportunity to leverage AI for regional advantage. Chamber members can register for this event HERE.
Later on the same evening, Derry Chamber is hosting the North West Stakeholder Thought Leadership Dinner with Paul Cheek in Bishop’s Gate Hotel. This private gathering will bring together senior leaders to consider how the North West can turn long-standing challenges into a sustainable competitive advantage, by adopting and applying AI at pace and scale.
Together, these developments reflect a region on the rise – one that is investing in its people and embracing innovation.
