It’s Good News Friday and this week we’re congratulating the fantastic team at North West Regional College who has won two major gold awards at UK competitions over the weekend!

At the Pearson Teaching Awards, Health Studies lecturers from NWRC won the Gold Award for ‘Further Education Team of Year.’ The award highlights teams that shine as beacons for the delivery of teaching and learning opportunities that inspire and engage learners to achieve their full potential.

The hard work of the BTEC Level 3 Health Studies team who have spend decades preparing students for careers in the health sector were praised by the judges for their “focus and passion”

A further congratulations to the two NWRC lecturers were finalists in the Pearse Further Education Lecturer of the Year Award, Sports Lecturer Ivor Neill and Health Lecturer Jacqueline Turner, who’s hard work to have a positive impact on their students and play a vital role in engaging learners was recognized by their nomination.

At the WorldSkills UK Finals, Foundation Degree Science student Rory Deehan won the Gold Medal in Laboratory Technician Skills. Rory was prepared for the competition by his lecturer and mentor Diane Smyth. It is a huge achievement to be named the best in the UK.  A further congratulations to Level 3 student Morgan Nutt was awarded a Silver Medal in Floor and Wall Tiling

The annual WorldSkills UK competition provides opportunities for individual students to test their knowledge and skills against the very best across the UK. North West Regional College’s excellent students went above and beyond in helping Northern Ireland place in the top four regions in the UK overall.

A massive well done to everyone who took part in or helped their students prepare for WorldSkills UK, and to all those who were nominated or won at the Pearson Teaching Awards. The wins in WorldSkills reflect the passion and dedication that was highlighted at the Pearson Teaching Awards and overall show the incredible talent in the North West.
