It’s Good News Friday as we celebrate the news that hundreds of jobs are coming to the North West!

Last week, Almac, one of Northern Ireland’s most well-known and successful indigenous companies, announced the creation of up to 100 new jobs here. The company is globally renowned in the fields of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, manufacturing and more, and promises to bring a massive boost to our local economy.

Almac’s decision to have their new base in the North West reflects our growing reputation in key sectors like health and life sciences, tech, AI and more, spurred on by the exciting future potential of the City Deal. After a very challenging 15 months, it is fantastic to see this significant investment and job creation here in the North West, and this growth will be vital as we rebuild post-lockdown.

The jobs don’t stop there. Alongside this, it is reported that US-based Fintech company Fiserv will announce that they are establishing an office in Ebrington. It is clear that, as international company’s look to grow in the coming months and years, the North West is top on the list of places to locate.

Over 200 of the company’s employees will locate in Ebrington Square on the Waterside and will be an excellent driver of economic growth and regeneration in the east side of the City. Highly skilled, quality jobs like these further cement our reputation in the North West as a leader in sectors such as tech, fintech, IT and cyber security.

As the saying goes, you wait a while for a bus, and then two come along at once. With two high-flying, international companies setting up shop in the North West in under a week, there is real cause for optimism in our local economy.
