One week on from a brilliant bash in the City Hotel Derry last Friday at the North West Business Awards! With 17 awards up for grabs, rewarding the best in class for sectors spanning retail, food and drink, hospitality, the green economy, and everything else in between, it was a fantastic evening of celebration and marking the success of local businesses from across Derry, Strabane, Donegal and further afield.

The awards celebrate businesses and entrepreneurs from all walks of life and entries were judged on their dedication, improvement, innovation, and commitment to trading and developing the economy of the North West region.

Superbly hosted by broadcaster Lynda Bryans, the evening recognised the good and the great in our local economy. The first award of the evening went to Ava McDowell from St Cecilia’s College in the city, as she picked up Young Business Person of the Year. It was also a strong night for our Chamber members! These included Terex, the Waterfoot Hotel, The Playhouse, FinTrU, Da Vinci’s Hotel, the Walled City Brewery, Cityman Menswear and Declan Doherty from Derry Youth and Community Workshop.

In particular, it was an excellent night for Terex, who went home with both the Educational Partnership Award and Large Business of the Year, strong recognition of the good work that the company does here in the North West.

FinTrU, overall winners at the North West Business Awards 2023 held in the City Hotel. Included are Colin Gracy, Loganair, Hannah Ramraj, Hugh Hegarty, chairman, City Centre Initiative, Wendy McDermott, Chamber of Commerce, and Lorraine Allen, CCI

FinTrU also had cause for celebration, winning Overall Business/Entrepreneur of the Year and Contribution to the North West Economy. These are fitting awards for a company which has been dedicated to the region since coming here only a few years ago and who have already made such a positive impact.

Thank you once again to all our sponsors without whom events and occasions like these would not be possible. A massive congratulations to all those who won and were nominated in this year’s awards. And roll on next year already and get thinking about those entries!
