It’s Good News Friday as this week we celebrate the eagerly awaited return of Derry Halloween later this month!

In just two weeks’ time, the spectacular Halloween 2021 programme will once again welcome visitors to one of the world’s leading Halloween destinations. This year’s theme is aptly titled “Awakening the Walled City”, and the highly anticipated festival will return to the City’s streets with an exciting array of outdoor festivities, al fresco events and more. The celebrations will also feature illuminations, animations and installations across key locations stretching around and beyond the City’s historic walls.

Derry Halloween has been organized by Derry City and Strabane District Council with support from Tourism NI, Donegal County Council and the North West Development Fund. While last year’s event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s event promises to be better than ever and promises to create the magic of the annual Carnival, but in a safe and accessible format.

The Halloween celebrations have always generated an immense sense of community spirit and enormous pride in the North West. Visitors this year will have an opportunity to travel through a series of Worlds linked to the City’s roots, with ghostly characters returning alongside the traditional fireworks display on Halloween night itself. After the last 18 months we’ve all had, we are confident that this year’s festival can recapture the magic we have all come to expect in a safe and controlled manner.

Events such as Derry Halloween generate significant economic benefit, and over the years, the festival has significantly boosted the tourism profile of the North West. The 2021 festival programme will showcase the vibrancy of our region and local artistic talent, and will provide visitors with a range of unique and compelling experiences across the city. We would like to wish all local businesses the very best ahead of the Walls awakening on 29th October!
