Institute Football Club is pleased to announce the submission of a comprehensive planning application to the Derry City and Strabane District Council Planning Department for the development of a new contemporary stadium and associated facilities. This landmark project represents a significant investment in the future of the club and the wider community.
The proposed development will be located at Clooney Park West, a site chosen for its potential to serve as a vibrant hub for both sports and community activities. The new stadium is designed to accommodate approximately two thousand spectators, providing modern facilities that meet the highest standards of comfort, safety, and sustainability.
Key Features of the Proposed Development:
- Sustainability: The project promotes renewable technologies and environmentally sustainable design elements, including solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, rainwater attenuation, and energy-efficient lighting, aligning with Institute FC’s commitment to sustainability.
- Community Facilities: The development will include multi-use community spaces, a gym, meeting/education rooms, and Class B1 and D1 commercial units, creating an adaptable and attractive community destination/facility.
- Enhanced Accessibility: The site will be easily accessible via public transport, and the use of the Council’s innovative Clooney Greenway Project.
Institute FC Chairman, Bill Anderson, commented on the submission: “This is a significant milestone in our club’s history. The new stadium will not only provide a first-class venue for our team and fans but also serve as a focal point for community engagement. We are committed to working closely with the local council and residents to ensure that this development brings lasting benefits to everyone involved.”
The planning application follows an extensive period of consultation with local stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and local government representatives. Institute FC has prioritized transparency and community involvement throughout the process, hosting several public meetings and information sessions to gather feedback and address concerns.
Pending approval, Institute FC will be seeking funding and support from both the public and private sectors. In the meantime, the clubs efforts will be focused on producing a solid business case for use in future funding applications and further consolidating the commitment and support of the local community and associated stakeholders.
This innovative development is designed around the concept of a fully functioning and sustainable ‘community hub’, focused on addressing a wide range of community needs.
Institute FC would like to extend its thanks to everyone who has already participated in the consultation process and looks forward to continuing its engagement with the community as the project progresses.
