The Millennium Forum is delighted to welcome the anticipated return of its ‘Musical Theatre Youth Open Mic Night’ which takes place in the Studio Theatre on Saturday 28th January. Organised by fifteen enthusiastic Youth Forum members, this fun-filled evening of musical theatre offers local young people the opportunity to showcase their singing talents in front of a live audience in a cabaret styled performance space.

Proudly sponsored by Craft Training, this popular event kicks off at 7.30pm and runs until 9.30pm.  Aimed primarily at young people ages 14-20, it is a family friendly event, so anyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the talent of the evening.

Mags Anderson, Education Officer at the Millennium Forum, encourages all young people with an interest in Musical Theatre to attend. She says:

“I am so excited to welcome the return of our Youth Open Mic Nights.  Our first event, which we ran as part of Culture Night last year, was a huge success and clearly demonstrated the need for a performance of its kind for our hugely talented young people.  I have no doubt that January’s event will be a similar success, so I would advise anyone wishing to attend or take part to book their space as soon as possible. We are delighted to have Craft Training as our Open Mic sponsor for the coming year and look forward to working together and offering more opportunities and experiences for the young people of the city and beyond.

The Millennium Forum theatre and studio space are all fully accessible via the main public entrance at Newmarket Street, with our specially adapted Changing Space facility accessible via the lifts.  We look forward to seeing you.”

The Youth Forum, who have organised the event, believe that it allows young people to grow in confidence and challenge any fears of performing in front of a live audience.  They commented:

“The event is important as it provides an opportunity for the talented young singers of Derry to gain experience in singing to an audience.  People should come to the open mic night because it is a fun evening watching some of Derry’s talented young people.  We really enjoyed the last open mic night. The next one promises to be a fun and very enjoyable event for everyone!”

Seamus Nealis, CEO at Craft Training added:

“Craft Training is proud to support the Millennium Forum Open Mic Night. We believe in nurturing young talent and this education project is a perfect fit for Craft Training. We are looking forward to working with the Millennium Forum’s award winning team.”
