Horizon Engineering has a great opportunity for the right candidate who has the passion to develop an Electrical Centre of Excellence for High/ Low Voltage and the growing renewable sector.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing an industry lead networking group to engage with various Academia Organizations to address the increasing skills shortage in the Electrical discipline.

Due to increasing demand and a growing portfolio of courses, Horizon is seeking a highly motivated, confident, safety conscious and experienced individual to support the development, implementation, and management of the strategic and operational requirements for our Belfast Training Academy, on a full-time basis.

The individual will experience success from working in a fast moving, challenging environment and will be experienced in the delivery of training courses to ensure that the training needs of the delegates who enroll on our courses and their employers are met.

Required Qualifications, Training & Aptitude

  1. ONC, HNC, Degree or equivalent in an electrical subject and/or have a minimum of ten years relevant experience.
  2. Capable of managing the activity, taking responsibility, and acting safely under all circumstances both as a High Voltage Authorised Person and as a Trainer in the delivery of High Voltage and Low Voltage Power Systems operational courses.
  3. Undertaken a recognized HV Authorised Persons training course including refresher courses at three- year intervals.
  4. Undertaken a recognized emergency first aid at work training course at three-year intervals, which shall include treatment for electric shock.
  5. Undertaken a recognized Trainer qualification or received a testimonial from a recognized Training Organization.

Key Competencies

Experience (knowledge)

  1. Have previous experience as a High Voltage Authorised Person; or previous experience in controlling electrical safe systems of work with another organization, or in conjunction with an Authorised Person in the Operation and Maintenance of High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical systems and equipment.
  2. Have previous experience in the delivery of High Voltage and Low Voltage Power Systems operational courses.
  3. Have previous experience in the delivery of the following City & Guilds courses:
    1. 2382-18 – 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
    2. 2377-22 – PAT Testing.
    3. 2391-52- Inspection and Testing.
  4. Have direct experience of operating various types of switchgear, under normal, emergency, failure, and fault conditions.
  5. Have a good working knowledge of the issuing and cancellation procedures for safety documents, issuing of safety keys and use of key safes.
  6. Have knowledge of the use of all appropriate safety equipment, test/indicating equipment, and Safety Signs.
  7. Have a good understanding of all the necessary safety measures to be taken to avoid Danger, and to prevent Injury and damage to equipment.
