The Seagate Derry / Londonderry Manufacturing site has been open for 30 years this year. We have over 1200 people working in our facility which is among the most advanced in the world, in the design, development, and volume manufacturing of recording heads. These recording heads write information onto and read information from the recording disc, within the data storage device.

In the role of Manufacturing Specialist, you will be working in one of our cleanroom areas and on groundbreaking technology, including working with state-of-the-art cleanroom toolsets. About the role:

The Seagate Manufacturing facility in Derry / Londonderry currently has an exciting opportunity for numerous Manufacturing Specialists (Production Operators) to join our team. The roles are permanent full-time opportunities, working 12 hour rotating shifts to include both days and nights over a 28-day period.

In total you will work 42 hours in a week, and you will also be paid a 25% shift allowance for working these hours, on top of a competitive salary. (Annual earnings of £26,622.96 & 25% shift allowance = Total £33,278.70 annually).

The role is on-site based and the work environment you will be working in, is within a cleanroom environment. You will be required to wear complete clean room protective clothing in this environment.

You will:

  • You will be working as part of the Springtown Manufacturing team. You will be responsible for operating a variety of machines in a 24/7 production environment within our wafer fabrication facility, producing recording heads for data storage products.
  • You will perform machine tending operations to ensure that the machines are utilised to their optimum level and that the production goals for the site are met.
  • You will be working within a cell of 3-4 people on shift within the larger shift team.
  • You will perform your tasks across a 12-hours shift pattern that will include days, nights, and weekends.
  • You will follow all Health & Safety rules and regulations that the facility has in place.
  • You must always wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment, (PPE).
  • Perform to meet departmental goals and quality targets.
  • Be motivated to work in a team and contribute to your team’s success.
  • Help identify and eliminate problems.
  • Assist in simplification and/or improvements of procedures, techniques or processes.
  • Adhere to all relevant documentation systems used in the production procedure.
  • Observe Clean room and wafer handling etiquette.
  • Utilising tools to their optimum level
  • Undertake training as required.

About you:

  • You must be able to work 12-hour shifts, including days, nights and weekends to our fixed rota.

Your experience should include:

You must have an English certificate at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification – GCSE. O’Level, BTEC, EBace, CIE, IGCSE, Skills for Life, Essential Skills, Functional Skills, Entry-Level Cert or ESOL Skills for life)). Or you must have at least 3 years Manufacturing experience.

Full training will be provided in this role. You will have a 12-month Probationary period.

The total length of visit will be approximately two hours. (If you have already completed the aptitude test within the past 3 months and passed, you will not be required to take this test again. If you did not pass this stage, you will have the opportunity to re-sit this test again).
  • 2nd Stage – We will bring the top number of candidates through to a Behavioural Based Interview, where you’ll be asked a set of questions designed to give us examples of how you performed in the work environment in the past, with the logic that past performance predicts future performance (e.g.) Tell me about a time when you were part of a high performing team. The questions will be linked to our core values, Innovation, Inclusion, Integrity. You’ll receive a link to book in your on-site interview once all assessments have been completed. (You will be required to come in on-site, to complete this).
  • 3rd Stage – If you are successful in obtaining a position at Seagate, you will undergo an occupational medical assessment. This is part of our company pre-employment checks.
