McCay Solicitors officially opened its new offices at 1 John Wesley Street in Strabane on 14 February. The opening was attended by many of Strabane’s and the North West’s business leaders as well as star of Channel 4’s hit series Derry Girls, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell.

The Derry-based firm specialises in employment law, commercial disputes, property and conveyancing, wills and estates, personal injury, family law, and commercial property. The firm’s Strabane expansion sees it move from its current location in the Orchard Road Business Park to new bespoke offices in the centre of town and emphasises their strength and growth across the North West.

Managing Director Gareth McCay has close family ties to Strabane with two of his uncles, George and Eamon, leading figures of local company Frylite. For Gareth, the decision to expand in Strabane was an easy one. “My family are from the Glebe and I grew up in Sion. Since then I have lived in Derry, Belfast, Leeds and Manchester but my wife is from Derry so inevitably we relocated back to Derry from Manchester after our first daughter was born. Our Strabane office has grown over the past three years so it is a proud moment to be expanding our business in the town.”

The firm has also recruited Associate Solicitor Mary-Claire Logue from global law firm Pinsent Masons and Business Development Manager Amanda Creagh who is well known in the North West due to her 20 years in the hospitality industry with Da Vinci’s Hotel and the Waterfoot Hotel.

“Our aim is to attract the best legal talent back to the North West and Marie-Claire fits perfectly with that ethos having worked for leading law firms in Sydney, London and Belfast. We were also delighted to welcome someone of the calibre of Amanda to the firm who will work with our commercial department to liaise with existing and prospective clients to ensure we are offering a top-class service.”

“Our firm tries to offer something different and our focus is on providing quick responses and turnaround whilst not compromising on quality”, explains Gareth. “To achieve this, we have invested in the most recent technology and we have recently undergone a complete IT upgrade to help us work seamlessly across both sites. I spent eight years working in large commercial law firms in Manchester and Belfast before deciding to go it alone in 2015 so I know what it takes to develop a service to meet clients’ needs and demands. Our commercial team now act for businesses of all sizes from sole traders right up to multi-nationals and offer services which may previously only been available in Belfast or further afield.

One such client, O’Neills Sports Managing Director, Kieran Kennedy, welcomed the firm’s new office in Strabane. “We moved all of our legal work from a large Belfast firm to McCay Solicitors in 2017 and we have never regretted that decision. The level of service has been second to none and the range of services has been hugely beneficial to our business. McCay Solicitors have consistently delivered for us on a range of projects and this new office will be a huge asset for Strabane and the surrounding areas.”

The firm has a team of six lawyers and ten staff across its Derry and Strabane offices. For more information, visit www.mccaysolicitors.co.uk or phone 02871 878177.
