Derry Chamber welcomes the arrival of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast, recognising the landmark festival as a significant opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland and deliver economic, tourism and cultural benefits that will be felt well beyond the host city.

With around 800,000 visitors expected to attend the week-long celebration from 2–9 August, the Fleadh represents one of the largest cultural events ever staged in the region. Alongside celebrating traditional Irish music, song, dance and language, the festival will generate increased demand across the local economy, creating opportunities for businesses, hospitality providers and retailers throughout the region.

For Derry Chamber, the event also serves as a reminder of the lasting impact major cultural events can have on a city. Derry proudly hosted the first-ever Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Northern Ireland in 2013 as part of the UK City of Culture programme, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors and delivering a significant boost to the local economy. The event transformed the city centre, showcased the North West to new audiences and demonstrated how culture can drive economic growth.

Derry Chamber believes the success of events such as the Fleadh strengthens Northern Ireland’s wider proposition as a place to visit, invest and do business. Major cultural events not only generate immediate visitor spending but also demonstrate the capability of towns and cities across the region to deliver world-class experiences.

The Chamber also sees the return of the Fleadh to Northern Ireland as another example of the value of regional collaboration.
