North West Regional College has launched a new Foundation Degree in Environmental Management and Sustainability (Level 5, pending validation by The Open University), starting September 2026 at  Strand Road campus.

This programme has been designed to both support regional workforce development and create structured, meaningful opportunities with employers.

The programme provides an accredited route for staff to upskill in environmental management, climate action, sustainability reporting, environmental compliance, resource and energy management and related areas.

The Foundation degree is flexible with full-time and part-time options allowing employees to study while continuing in their current roles, helping you build internal capacity without losing valuable staff.

It can contribute directly to strengthening your organisation’s skills base for delivering climate and sustainability commitments, statutory duties and corporate plans.

Offering student placement opportunities

The degree includes a substantial work-based learning module, where students apply their skills in real organisations across local government, health, utilities, housing, community and environmental sectors.

Hosting a placement student can give your team additional project capacity on sustainability, data gathering, community engagement, environmental monitoring or related priorities.

It also allows you to shape the skills and experience of a potential future talent pipeline, with the opportunity to identify strong candidates for future recruitment.

The programme is relevant to teams working in environmental services, estates and facilities, planning and regeneration, climate action, community development, corporate sustainability and related functions.
