Today, it was announced that 22 Higher Education (HE) students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) associated subjects at North West Regional College (NWRC) have been awarded scholarships totalling £44,000 from the 2020/21 SSE Airtricity Scholarship Fund.

The SSE Airtricity Scholarship Fund has supported students in Tyrone, Derry, Fermanagh and Donegal for three years. It provides 50% funding support towards the cost of third-level fees for recipients commencing first year studies in STEM-associated subjects at partner colleges.

Since the initiative began three years ago, 59 HE students have now been awarded this prestigious scholarship, sharing a total value of £130,000.

Speaking today, NWRC Principal and Chief Executive, Leo Murphy, said:

“Congratulations to the 22 NWRC students who have this year received an SSE Airtricity Scholarship Fund award. This is the third year our students have been supported through SSE Airtricity scholarships, which help to finance the Higher Education of local learners. The scholarships will be used in a variety of ways to support the students as they take these important steps into their futures. This year we have recipients from Art & Design, Built Environment, Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science & Media.”

“We continue to support and encourage all of our students who are committed to forging a career in STEM industries, and we are very proud of the quality of the STEM courses offered at our five campuses across the North West, which are an attractive proposition for local school leavers. The SSE Airtricity Scholarship Fund continues to make a hugely positive impact on the lives of young people in the North West.”
