Foyle Kumon in partnership with Ulster University organises Northern Ireland’s Inaugural Festival of Maths… and it’s happening in Derry.
Friday the 7th of February and Saturday the 8th of February in the Guildhall in Derry/ Londonderry.
- What is Maths Fest?
NI Maths Fest in Partnership with Ulster University is a FREE 2-day annual event dedicated to celebrating mathematics in various engaging forms including activities, brain exercises, talks and workshops. It aims to foster a love and understanding of mathematics among all attendees including children, educators and parents.
NI Maths Fest 2025 will be accessible to all and will be a platform for celebrating maths, making maths fun, relatable and helping parents to understand how to support their children to learn the much-dreaded subject.
- Why Maths Fest?
Through this festival, it is our aim to improve accessibility and understanding of Maths for the families of Derry Strabane and beyond and to help parents develop their own skills so they can support their children.
By highlighting the practical relevance of maths in everyday life through engaging activities and talks, the Maths Fest strives to connect students and parents with experts in the field and to help overcome barriers to engaging with Maths.
- Who is it For?
The event is for students, educators, parents of all ages. It provides a platform for learning more about Maths and sharing knowledge in our community.
Day 1- For Primary Schools only- With 14 primary and post primary schools involved.
Day 2- Open to the Public – For children, young people and their families in Key Stage 4 – ages 14 – 16 and Key Stage 5- ages 16-18 years old.
- Running time – 11 am – 3.30 pm
- Activities start at 11 am
- Talks start at 11.15
- Also suitable for Parents and Families there will be activities to suit children of all ages so bring the whole family along

What’s happening?
Day 2 is designed for children in secondary school, parents and families and will provide activities, workshops and seminars that provide practical tips on how to use Maths is in our daily lives including money management and budgeting, maths in business and careers that use maths.
The day will also include practical tips on how to get your mind ready for learning with our brain gym and educate parents as to how to support their children’s learning and overcome their own fear of Maths. The day will also feature Virtual Reality and AI Technologies and Tech based maths activities hosted by Seagate Technologies and Northwest Regional College.
The event promises to be a fun, practical and interesting afternoon for Secondary School Students and their parents with Maths activities and stands in conjunction with University of Ulster, Northwest Regional College, Kumon Study Centre, Benchmark Financial Planning, Seagate Technologies and Lumen Christi College.

11.30 am- Benchmark Financial Planning- Money Management- Suitable for children aged 15 +
Whether you are a college student with a job or a student leaving for university soon, this workshop will give you an insight on money management. Learn about money management from a young age, the best ways to invest your money, debit and credit cards and much more.
- 12.00 pm- History of maths- Suitable for All
An exciting opportunity to know about the various discoveries and inventions in the maths world. Learn about our great mathematician and how their inventions have helped shape the world. Want to learn some interesting maths tricks .. Then join us.
- 12.20 pm- Ulster University Talk – Careers in Maths – Suitable for children aged 14 +
NI Maths Fest Partner Ulster University will present a talk on Maths in Careers, supporting our teenage students and their families in making informed career choices.
- 12.50 pm- Brain Gym 2- Suitable for All
Practical demonstration of simple brain boosting exercises for all ages.
- 1.15 pm- Benchmark- Financial Planning – Money Management, budgeting and investment – Suitable for older children and Young Adults.
- 2.15- Ulster University talk– Maths in Technology – Suitable for young adults – This talk will highlight the various opportunities available to children and young adults in Technology Careers.
- 2.30 pm – Workshop for parents- Tips to help your children in education – Suitable for all parents with children in education.
This talk will advise parents on how best to help their children succeed in education. We can help you!!
